Anthony Bourdain On Grappling With Joe Rogan: ‘I’m Not Rolling With That Guy, It Hurts’

Celebrity chef Anthony Bourdain is known to be a great fan of mixed martial arts. In fact, he was able to earn a blue belt under the guidance of Renzo Gracie. He even won the title earlier this year in the BJJF New York Spring International Open – quite an accomplishment.

He recently went to Reddit for an “Ask Me Anything” session and one of the questions was whether he would be open to the idea of throwing down with Joe Rogan. He is often on the latter’s show, after all, so it makes sense for the two to spar at the very least.

“No. I’m not rolling with that guy, it hurts. He does not roll light, he goes really really hard. He’s a neck cranker, by the way, and he’s got bowling balls for arms, no visible neck, and he only rolls with no gi. So as much as I love the guy, I’ll do anything with him; shoot animals in the brain, canoe trip, hot tubbing, whatever. But I’m not rolling with the guy.”

Bourdain quickly dismissed the idea, pointing out that Rogan goes down hard and it would hurt. He also noted Rogan’s large arms and preference for no-gi grappling. Given all these things, he would rather do other activities with his buddy besides grappling on the mat.
