According to an Instagram story originally posted by ADCC organizer Mo Jassim and reshared on the official ADCC account, the first ADCC Canada Open is on track to be hosted in Ottawa in April 2023.

The ADCC Canada account also reposted the news, though they were quick to express regret that the city of Montréal would be unable to host ADCC events for the foreseeable future, due to strict laws in the Canadian province of Québec forbidding jiu-jitsu competitions

The #legalizebjj hashtag advocating for the legalization of jiu-jitsu tournaments in Québec has picked up steam, particularly in light of the accolades visited upon Canada’s own ADCC 2022 silver medalist Brianna Ste-Marie. In an Instagram post on her account, Ste-Marie expressed gratitude to the mayor of Montréal for a letter congratulating her on her ADCC performance this year.

“This is another testament to how much our sport has grown globally and it is very cool to be recognized at this level,” wrote Ste-Marie. “Hopefully this kind of attention will help the legalisation of our sport in the province of Quebec.”
