K.T Tape & Jiu-Jitsu

If you have been training Jiu-Jitsu for more than a year I am sure you have taped something on your body. We use tape often in Jiu-Jitsu and this is usually for the fingers. Fingers are often injured in Jiu-Jitsu, but there are other injuries we can use tape for. However, I’m not talking about regular athletic tape. I’m talking about what is known as kinesiology tape or KT tape for short. While KT tape is gaining popularity in other sports, many Jiu-Jitsu athletes are still unaware of the benefits it provides. KT tape is basically super adhesive and stretchy tape that is applied around injured joints in the body in order to provide additional support.  You can go on youtube, and find demonstrations on how to tape almost anything with KT tape to provide additional support and relieve stress. Some of the common Jiu Jitsu Injuries that can be supported with KT Tape are elbow, shoulder, knee, foot and ribs. All of these injuries have an application with KT tape and can be supported. With the support in place you can protect yourself from future injuries and possibly train with minor injuries. This can also be helpful should you have nagging injuries when entering a tournament, and I don’t believe there is any rule against it. So check out the video attached and see how helpful KT tape can be for yourself.
