Mackenzie Dern is the subject of many conversations in the Brazilian jiu-jitsu and MMA world, and not only because of everything she has accomplished in both arts.
Many fans have noticed the curious evolution of Dern’s accent. Mackenzie spoke with a thick American accent early in her career, but now she speaks with a heavy Brazilian accent.
One fan even made a video about it:
MMA reporter Ariel Helwani brought this up to her at a UFC 222 interview. Dern simply laughed about it and said “It’s so flattering.” She also said that much more attention would be paid to her fights after UFC 222.
I disagree. I think fans will continue to ponder the phenomenon that is Mackenzie Dern’s evolving accent even if she becomes champion in the UFC.
