Days ago, 3rd Coast Grappling announced their sixth major event, which is set to be held on April 3 and will serve as their debut on FITE TV.

The promotion announced that they would be hosting an eight-man grand prix tournament at 3CG 6, which will see $15,000 go to the first-place finisher and $5,000 to the runner-up. However, at the time, none of the athletes competing for the big prize had been announced, with the promotion choosing to announce them slowly to build the hype before the big event.

Based on their first announced athlete, we see why they’re going with that strategy.

ADCC runner-up Nicky Rodriguez is the first confirmed athlete for 3CG 6, which marks his return to the event after most recently appearing at 3CG: Kumite IV. Rodriguez lost a referee decision to Roberto Jimenez in that bracket, and he’ll be hoping to make it further along this time around.

Rodriguez has been making a name for himself ever since he placed third at the ADCC Trials as a white belt with only a few months of BJJ experience. He then, of course, went on to qualify for the prestigious tournament and then earned silver there, being promoted to purple belt after the achievement. In addition to his ADCC accomplishments, he’s also defeated big names for other jiu-jitsu promotions, including Luke Rockhold and Roosevelt Sousa.

There are still seven more competitors to be announced for this 3CG 6 bracket — and, of course, a few big superfights to be revealed as well — so keep an eye on this space for more exciting news for 3CG’s return.

3CG VI will take place on Saturday, April 3 in Houston, Texas and can be purchased via PPV on FITE TV.
