The Abu Dhabi Grand Slam® will be broadcasted across 100 countries on eighteen networks [live and delayed telecast]

Alexandre “Café” Dantas and Ricco Rodrigues to clash in Legends heavyweight match at the Abu Dhabi Grand Slam® Tokyo

Tokyo, Japan, 12th July, 2017: Abu Dhabi Grand Slam® Tokyo will be broadcasted on Abu Dhabi Sports, Dubai Sports and Sharjah Sports in the UAE & MENA region, Combate and SporTV in Brazil, FloGrappling worldwide stream, FOX Sports in Asia, Fight Network in Canada, Europe and MENA, Astro in Malaysia, Starhub in Singapore, ABS-CBN Sports in Philippines, Orange TV in Indonesia, SCTV in Vietnam, Singtel in Singapore and Australia, LeSports in China, Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan, SFR Sports and London Live in Europe, Super Sport and Azam TV in Africa.

The event in Tokyo will be held in the presence of the United Arab Emirates Ambassador to Japan, His Excellency Khaled Omran Alamri, the Governor of Tokyo, Her Excellency Yurkio Koike (she was elected on 31 July 2016 as the city’s first female governor), UAEJJF board member, Mr. Mansour Al Dhaheri, and Abu Dhabi Grand Slam Director, Mr. Tareq Al Bahri.

The Abu Dhabi Grand Slam® in Tokyo will begin at 10:30am until 18:00pm (Tokyo standard time). The pre-date weigh-in will take place from 17:00pm to 19:00pm at Makuhari Messe Convention Center; the on-date early weigh-in will take place on the day of the event from 8:30am to 9:30am. 

The UAEJJF also announces a super match in the Legends series to take place during the Abu Dhabi Grand Slam® Jiu-Jitsu World Tour Tokyo, on July 15. Brazilian Alexandre “Café” Dantas and Ricco Rodrigues will battle in the heavyweight division. The winner of the match will keep his chance alive to fight Marcio “Pé de Pano” Cruz for the division belt at the 2018 ADWPJJC, in Abu Dhabi. 

Dantas, 38, is a black belt under Carlos Gracie Jr. He has notable wins in against Rodrigo Comprido, Gabriel Gonzaga, Fabrício Werdum, Marcelo Garcia, Demian Maia, Bruno Bastos, Fernando Tererê, Marcio Corleta, and others. In 2007, Dantas won the Brazilian ADCC trials.

Rodriguez, 39, is a four-time ADCC medalist including the1998 gold medal at the +99kg division. He was also the first athlete from Porto Rico to win a belt in the UFC.

The 2017/2018 season of the Abu Dhabi Grand Slam® Jiu-Jitsu World Tour kicks off July 15, at the Makuhari Messe Convention Center, in Tokyo, Japan. The registrations are closed as of July 11, at 11:59PM (Abu Dhabi Time).

Fight media credentials can be picked up on Saturday, 15th July and from 10am at the Makuhari Messe Convention Center. Proper personal photo ID is required for credential pick-up.
