The two immediately sat to guard. Dern lay down on her back, but Beatriz got double unders and passed. Mesquita then got north south, and as Dern turned to her knees, Beatriz took her back. Mackenzie bucked and rolled, but Beatriz stayed on, working her hooks in and sliding her arms under Dern’s neck.

It only took her 64 seconds to get the choke in.

Beatriz “Bia” Mesquita is a black belt under Leticia Ribeiro. In 2006 she started freestyle wrestling, but eventually abandoned the sport to dedicate all of her time to Brazilian jiu-jitsu. Mesquita received her black belt back in 2011.
