Yesterday, a report from MMA Junkie revealed that UFC Hall-of-Famer BJ Penn had been served a restraining order by his former partner
Shelean Uaiwa, who is the mother of his children. The report detailed allegations of physical, verbal, and sexual abuse by Penn, who has not been arrested or charged with a crime.

Now, Penn’s team has released an official statement via his website, which reads as follows:

“BJ is in a highly-contested child custody case involving his two young daughters. The order of protection has made serious allegations against BJ.  The allegations are so, misleading, hurtful and false that any further comment by BJ or about BJ would cause more damage to the well-being of his children and potentially further inflame the pending custody proceedings. BJ and his family ask that you respect their privacy at this very difficult time.”

Per the report, Uaiwa said that she hadn’t reported the alleged incidents to the police “because of his name, reputation, the control he has had over [her] life and [she] was scared.”
