Brendan Schaub Details Story Of Rescuing Children From Fatal Car Crash

Retired UFC fighter Brendan Schaub has shared his account of a fatal car crash from which he says he rescued multiple children.

According to CBS Los Angeles, the crash in question took place on August 12 in Encino, CA, with prosecutors saying that 31-year-old Cesar Iban Torres intentionally drove the wrong way on the freeway with the purpose of killing his girlfriend — 26-year-old Aimee Garcia — and their children. The children in the car survived, but Garcia was killed in the crash. Torres survived and has been charged with murder, attempted murder, child abuse, assault with a deadly weapon, and resisting arrest.

On a recent episode of The Fighter and the Kid, Schaub said that he was at the scene of the accident and helped get the kids out of the car. Schaub says he decided to stop his own vehicle when he saw a kid waving from the top of an SUV that had been destroyed by an 18-wheeler. He recalls pulling apart a broken window of the SUV to pull one child out and trying to shield them from the sight of their late mother.

“In the front is a lady who passed away – brain matter everywhere, blood everywhere. And the kid’s going, ‘Mama, mama!’ I go, ‘Bubba, look at me. Look at me, don’t look over there.’ He was so young, it would’ve completely f***ed him up. I look at the guy and go, ‘Get a blanket, cover his mom,'” says Schaub.

At this point, Schaub says that he helped another child out of the vehicle and passed them on to another woman who stopped to help. A Twitter user claiming to be that woman posted a photo from the accident.

A GoFundMe has been set up for the family to help support the children and pay for funeral costs; as of the time of this article’s publication, it has reached over $62,000.
