Cody Garbrandt Reportedly Hospitalized With Kidney Problems, Will Not Fight At Upcoming UFC Event

Former UFC bantamweight champion Cody Garbrandt will no longer be fighting in the co-main event of March 28’s UFC on ESPN 8 event, according to ESPN.

The report states that Garbrandt was hospitalized earlier this week with kidney problems. He is planning on seeing a specialist in his home state of Ohio, which is where the UFC event in question is scheduled to take place, but will be unable to participate.

A replacement for Garbrandt hasn’t been found for his would-be opponent Rafael Assuncao, and the status of the event itself is currently uncertain due to a potential ban on spectators from the Ohio government due to the coronavirus outbreak.

Garbrandt hasn’t fought since March of last year, where he suffered his third consecutive loss by TKO/KO. This would have been his first time fighting in his home state during his time in the UFC.

UFC on ESPN 8 will take place in Columbus, Ohio, on March 28.
