Former ADCC and IBJJF champion Marcus “Buchecha†Almeida is set to face MMA legend Fabricio Werdum in a grappling match at BJJ Bet this September. Details emerged after Werdum announced the match at his post-fight media scrum following his submission victory over Alexander Gustafsson at UFC Fight Night 147.
Coming hot off the heels of Buchecha’s announced shift to MMA, facing the former UFC heavyweight champion and fellow BJJ black belt offers an interesting middle ground. With multiple gold medals in both the ADCC and IBJJF championships, Werdum enters as much more than a simple MMA grappler. The fight comes a full six years after a bout between the two was teased by Werdum back in 2014.
