Glover Teixeira Tests Positive For COVID-19; UFC Fight With Thiago Santos Moved To Oct. 3

Fight fans looking forward to September 12’s UFC light heavyweight bout between Glover Teixeira and Thiago Santos will have to wait a bit longer to see the showdown.

Combate was the first to report that Teixeira has tested positive for COVID-19. As such, his fight against Santos is expected to be rescheduled for October 3. This is the same card that will feature a highly anticipated fight between Holly Holm and Irene Aldana, which was also moved ahead due to Aldana’s COVID-19 diagnosis.

Teixeira vs. Santos was scheduled as the main event for the September 12 card, with Michelle Waterson vs. Angela Hill as the co-main event. A replacement headliner has not yet been announced.

Teixeira is riding a four-fight winning streak, having last defeated Anthony Smith via TKO back in May. Santos’ own winning streak was disrupted by Jon Jones in a split -decision loss last year, which resulted in Santos receiving multiple knee injuries that required surgery and left him unable to fight for months. His fight against Teixeira will be his first in over a year.
