Las Vegas BJJ Gym Dunham Jiu-Jitsu Announces Permanent Closure Due To COVID-19

Another jiu-jitsu gym has permanently closed its doors due to the impact of COVID-19.

Las Vegas’ Dunham Jiu-Jitsu, owned by UFC veteran Evan Dunham, has announced that it has been forced to close to due the financial impact of the pandemic.

Unfortunately we will be closing our doors permanently starting tomorrow. This is due to the Covid crisis and the impact it has had on small businesses like ours. We will be issuing pro-rated refunds, please allow two weeks for refunds. Thank you for the past 5 years. #dunhamjiujitsu

The academy was a regular training spot for multiple-time world champion Mikey Musumeci, who began training there since his move to Las Vegas four years ago.

Musumeci shared an emotional post about the academy’s closure and expressed his gratitude toward the academy and staff for their part in his jiu-jitsu journey:

Today is a very sad day. Since 2016 when my family first moved to Vegas, I have been training every morning @dunhamjiujitsu . Today they have just permanently closed due to the circumstances of Corona, and I am absolutely devastated. I just want to thank @evandunham155 for his hospitality and friendship the last 4 years, and all the friends and memories from the gym! I am really trying to stay optimistic during this time, but itâ€™s getting harder and harder. I pray for all small business owners that are struggling as well that they can make it out of this in one piece. God bless everyone and my condolences to anyone else going through a hard time as well.

Dunham Jiu-Jitsu is among a growing number of academies that have been forced to close permanently after suffering financial losses due to the pandemic. Utah’s Gracie Jiu-Jitsu St. George and Canada-based gym Superior Martial Arts have also been among the gyms that will not be reopening.
