Mica Galvao Has Earned His Jiu-Jitsu Black Belt At Age 17

Seventeen-year-old jiu-jitsu prodigy Mica Galvao has earned his black belt from his father, Melqui Galvao.

Galvao, who has long established himself as one of jiu-jitsu’s rising young stars, shared the news on social media following his return to Brazil.

“THE START OF THE JOURNEY
Arriving where I always dreamed and where everything begins. I thank everyone who was and is with me on this journey, without you none of this would be possible.
Today I received my JIU-JITSU BLACK BELT. At 17 YEARS OF AGE I have a RESPONSIBILITY to do only MY BEST to represent this path and continue GIVING GOOD EXAMPLES in any way I can for the NEW GENERATION. God bless you all.”

Galvao only earned his brown belt in October of last year, but he’s done plenty to prove that he deserves his black belt already. Just recently, he defeated Oliver Taza at Who’s Number One, following it up the very next day with a $15,000 win at 3CG 7’s Middleweight Grand Prix.

This is the second black belt Galvao has earned this year. Back in March, he earned his black belt in luta livra from Totonho Aleixo.

We’ll get to see Galvao put his black belt to the test when he competes at BJJ Bet: Who’s Next at the beginning of August.
