Mica Galvão Tests Positive for Prohibited PED, Stripped of 2022 IBJJF World Title

Mica Galvão has been stripped of his 2022 IBJJF world title following an anti-doping rule violation, per an announcement released today by USADA. According to USADA, Galvão tested positive for clomiphene and its metabolite 4-hydroxyclomiphene — a banned substance — during an in-competition test administered on June 5, 2022, during Worlds.

Although the substance in question was reportedly prescribed by a physician, Galvão failed to obtain a mandatory therapeutic use exemption (TUE), per USADA regulations. As a result, his sanction stands.

Galvão has accepted a one-year suspension from competition in IBJJF events, with the period of ineligibility starting from July 22, 2022. He has also been disqualified from all competitive results achieved on or after June 5, 2022, the date on which USADA collected his positive sample.
