Paulo Miyao is once again a UAEJJF World Pro champion, but this year, some believe his victory isn’t quite so clear-cut.

Miyao’s match against Isaac Doederlein was a close one, and for a while, it looked like we might see both Miyao brothers upset by underdogs this year. Doederlein put up a tremendous fight and was ahead by two points at first, but then, a controversial call happened in the last minute that would ultimately decide the fate of the match.

Miyao scrambled to control his opponent from the back, and as Doederlein struggled to keep his balance and avoid giving up his position, he ended up going out of bounds. The referee penalized him two points for this, evening up the scoreboard. When the clock ran out, Miyao had won via advantages. A visibly distraught Doederlein pleaded with the referee, but the decision was final.
