There is little argument about the benefits of martial arts for children. Kids who participate and set goals, such as working toward the next belt, learn to focus, learn respect for themselves and peers, and gain self confidence.
Kids who are different in any way often become the target of bullies. But, Martial Arts gives you confidence against bullies. Consider the recent American Family Insurance commercial. A young boy wants to learn Flamenco dancing. His father is worried about him being targeted by bullies, when they see him in his costume. He signs the boy up for Martial Arts classes. The boy gains confidence to protect himself. If every kid had real martial arts training, bullies probably wouldn’t exist.
