As COVID-19 has affected many people’s access to jiu-jitsu over the past few months, many practitioners have developed a new appreciation for a sport they may have taken for granted. As BJJ athletes have slowly returned to the mats — perhaps in a limited capacity, such as training on puzzle mats in their garage with one or two friends — we’ve been reminded of what makes jiu-jitsu so important to us. While, yes, the medals and CBD sponsorship potential is enticing, the love of the art is ultimately what brought us to the mats.
