The women’s open weight division at this year’s IBJJF Pan American Championship will end with a closeout between Atos teammates Luiza Monteiro and Rafaela Guedes.
Guedes defeated Melissa Cueto in the first round before moving on to defeat Jessica Flowers in the quarterfinals via points. Monteiro, who had a bye in the first round, went on to submit Kendall Reusing with a kneebar in the quarter-finals.
In the semifinals, Monteiro defeated Gabrielle McComb via points to earn her way to the finals. Guedes pulled out a judges’ decision win over Maria Malyjasiak to move past the semifinals as well, and the teammates have decided to close out the division together on Sunday.
