Over the weekend, UK-based MMA fighter Jahreau Shepherd was stabbed to death at a party celebrating his 30th birthday, according to MMA Junkie.
The tragic incident occurred Saturday night at around 10 pm at a South London housing estate where Shepherd was celebrating his 30th birthday party with his family and friends. Although first responders tried to save him, Shepherd passed away at the scene. A 26-year-old man who is believed to have attended the same party was also taken to the hospital with stab wounds that are considered non-life-threatening.
No arrests have been made in connection with the incident yet.
UFC fighter Darren Stewart, who trained with Shepherd, shared an emotional tribute to his friend on social media after hearing the news:
A GoFundMe has been set up for Shepherd’s family to help cover funeral expenses. At the time of this post’s publication, it has raised £15,000 ($18,879.60 USD).
Shepherd last fought in February, getting a unanimous decision victory for the Contenders promotion in a four-fight win streak. He was 6-2 as a professional fighter, with all but one of his victories ending in a submission or KO/TKO. He fought for Bellator back in 2018, where he won against Marcin Zywika via TKO.
