According to Ben Askren, it looks like a lot of BJJ and MMA fans will get to watch the matchup of their dreams this October.
Askren made the announcement via Twitter:
“Done deal! Oct 26 we will find out who the best MMA grappler on planet earth is.”
While the UFC hasn’t made an official statement about the bout yet, MMA Junkie has contacted multiple sources who confirmed Askren’s claim.
Askren, an ADCC veteran, maintained an undefeated MMA record until his July 6 loss against Jorge Masvidal, which occurred in a record-setting five seconds after a flying knee from Masvidal knocked him out.
Maia is a 2007 ADCC champion with 13 submission wins in his 27-9 MMA career. He’s won his last two fights, one via rear naked choke and his most recent via decision.
