Donald Cerrone & Diego Sanchez Agree To May UFC Fight

It looks like Diego Sanchez has found his final UFC opponent before he retires.

MMA Fighting has reported that Sanchez and Donald Cerrone have agreed to meet at a UFC fight on May 8, with a location still to be determined. Sanchez, who has been fighting in the UFC for fifteen years, has recently stated that his next fight would be his last.

Cerrone is considered one of the more high-profile UFC fighters of recent years, but he hasn’t won any of his last five fights; his most recent bout, in which he faced Niko Price, ended in a draw and was changed to a no-contest after Price tested positive for marijuana. Sanchez has won three of his last five fights. However, his most recent appearance ended in a decision loss to Jake Matthews.

Making this matchup even more interesting is that Cerrone and Sanchez are former teammates, having both competed for the Jackson-Wink MMA team before moving on separately to different teams.

Regardless of the outcome of this fight, the good news is that we’re likely to see more of both Sanchez and Cerrone in the jiu-jitsu scene. Cerrone most recently defeated Rafael dos Anjos (twice) in an unconventional match at SUG 19, and we’ll know the results of Sanchez’s High Rollerz match against Jake Shields on February 12.
