Grappling Industries has just given you another reason to say “I ♡ NY.” At their August 19 tournament at Baruch College in Manhattan, they’ll be hosting a superfight for the ages when Fight to Win Pro and two-time EBI champion Eddie Cummings goes head to head with multiple-time Pan American and world champion Paulo Miyao.

The ten-minute match will follow ADCC rules and have two five-minute rounds of overtime if necessary.

Dave Aguzzi is excited for the match to happen not only as the Grappling Industries promoter, but as a fan:

It’s two of the best guards in the whole game. The best gi guy and the best no-gi guy, and we get to find out if BJJ was a champion sport who’d be the 145-lb champion.

The matchup is one that is both intriguing and surprising — Miyao is known mainly for his success in point-based tournaments, especially in the IBJJF. Cummings, on the other hand, has seen most of his victories in the sub-only scene at events like Polaris. While Cummings is known for his devastating leg locks, Miyao has proven himself dangerous when he gets to an opponent’s back. Both grapplers have only one significant submission loss —Cummings to a triangle-armbar from Garry Tonon and Miyao to an armbar from Tiago Barros — so don’t expect this fight to end easily.

Registration for the round-robin tournament will be open until Tuesday, August 15 at 11:59 pm and can be completed on the Grappling Industries website. The event will be streamed live for free, so there’s no excuse to miss all the action!
