Retired mixed martial artist Gabriel Gonzaga is set to return to the BJJ scene. The former UFC heavyweight title contender will face off with his opponents on  August 12 at the Regis Lewis Center in Boston. The Brazilian’s return to what has been dubbed as the biggest Fight To Win Pro of the summer is expected to excite his fans. It’s not clear what lured Gonzaga out of retirement. He had previously announced his retirement in MMA, though at that time, he announced that he would return if offered a six figure contract.

Fight To Win Pro 44 will also feature Travis Stevens, Yuri Simões, Rick Hawn, Rafael Formiga, Barbosa, and others. Nicknamed Napao, the 38-year-old Gonzag’s return has surprised fans. Some have termed the fight as unreal. Gonzaga had previously criticized mixed martial arts and expressed his desire to concentrate on Brazilian jiu-jitsu. He cited age and health concerns as some of the reasons why he was walking away from a sport that brought him fame and fortune. The 4th degree BJJ black belt amassed 17 wins and 11 losses in his mixed martial arts career.

It looks like we have not seen the last of Gonzaga!
