Garry Tonon Taps Shinya Aoki Via Heel Hook At ONE FC Dynasty Of Heroes

Garry Tonon

Garry “The Lion Killer” Tonon will go down in history as the winner of ONE Championship‘s first ever grappling match.

Tonon competed against former ONE Championship Lightweight World Champion Shinya Aoki at ONE’s Dynasty of Heroes. The match took place in front of a sold out crowd at the Singapore Indoor Stadium.

The Lion Killer went in for the kill early, jumping either to guard or for a flying triangle. Aoki moved out of the way, though, and quickly took control after landing a double leg.

Shinya pressed Garry up against the cage as Tonon worked some butterfly guard. Aoki, however, kept the pressure on, taking Garry down almost as soon as he worked his way up to his feet.

Tonon got up again, but this time Aoki jumped on Garry’s back and locked on a leg triangle. Shinya worked for an RNC, but Garry worked his way back up and both were on their feet again.

Now it was Garry’s turn to press Shinya up against the fence. Tonon wasn’t able to take Aoki down, however.

Shinya once again tried to take Garry down, but this time Tonon rolled and got a hold of his leg. Aoki did exactly what he should have done, triangling his leg, but it wasn’t enough. Garry only had to make some minor adjustments before he was able to lock in one of his deadly heel hooks and force Shinya to yell “tap!”
