Israel Adesanya To Fight Jan Blachowicz For Light Heavyweight Title At UFC 259

A huge headlining fight has just been announced for UFC 259, which is set to take place on March 6.

Current UFC middleweight champion Israel Adesanya will be going for another title as he takes on UFC light heavyweight champion Jan Blachowicz. The news was first reported by ESPN.

Blachowicz took over the light heavyweight title by defeating Dominick Reyes after the slot was vacated by Jon Jones back in August. The victory marked his first championship win, and his fight against Adesanya will mark his first title defense. He’s currently riding a four-fight win streak, finishing three of those fights with a KO or TKO.

His challenger, of course, is 20-0 and has defended his middleweight title twice, most recently defeating Yoel Romero and then Paulo Costa. Adesanya has long suggested that he might move up to try to claim yet another UFC title, but now he’ll be trying to take it from Blachowicz instead of Jones.

The card for UFC 259 also includes a rescheduled featherweight title fight between Amanda Nunes and Megan Anderson, which was postponed due to an injury on Nunes’ part after being scheduled for UFC 256. The card does not yet have a venue or location.

UFC 259 will take place on Saturday, March 6, 2021.
