Marcelo Garcia black belt Marcos Tinoco battled through a field of talented athletes to earn the 85kg Masters 1 title today at the UAEJJF Abu Dhabi World Pro.

Tinoco, who is a two-time Euros and No-Gi Pans champion, ended up facing Australia’s David Willis (who earned multiple Pan Pacs titles before earning his black belt in January) in the finals of the division. Although Willis had proven himself a very worthy opponent throughout the day, winning all three of his prior matches via submission, Tinoco was able to control the match (which can be viewed in the video at the bottom of this article) and ultimately come away with the victory.

The Jiu-Jitsu Times caught up with Tinoco after he claimed his medal at the podium to see what he thought of the match, his opponent, and the event as a whole:

Earlier in the day, Willis also gave us his thoughts on his new black belt career and his experience at this year’s World Pro so far:
