Max Holloway Vs. Yair Rodriguez To Headline July 17 UFC Event

Former UFC Featherweight Champion and recently promoted BJJ brown belt Max Holloway has his next opponent lined up.

Holloway will be taking on Yair Rodriguez in a five-round main event set to take place at a yet-unnamed UFC event on July 17 this year. ESPN was the first to report the matchup.

After an impressive streak that saw him win fourteen out of fifteen fights (during which he claimed the featherweight title and defended it three times), Holloway lost his title to Alexander Volkanovski at the end of 2019. After losing the rematch against Volkanovski in July of last year, Holloway came back and shined with a dominant win against Calvin Kattar at UFC Fight Island 7. This will be his first fight since that bout in January.

Rodriguez hasn’t fought since 2019, when his win against Jeremy Stephens earned him a Fight of the Night bonus. Prior to that, he won his fight against “The Korean Zombie” Chan Sung Jung with a knockout at the literal last second of the fight. He also boasts a TKO victory against BJ Penn from 2017.

Holloway vs. Rodriguez will take place on Saturday, July 17, with more fights still to be announced for the card.
