Every lower belt — i.e., white and blue belt — needs a little help finding his or her game. Heck! Many purple belts and even some brown belts might need a few tips with it.

By game, of course, I mean your personal style of jiu-jitsu.  Do you pull guard, or do you prefer to throw your opponent or take her to the ground? When you do get her to the ground, are you going to go for a leg or a choke?

All jiu-jitsu practitioners prefer some moves to others. Some people enjoy jumping flying triangles. Me? I’m 38 years old and not particularly athletic. You’d see me doing the moonwalk on top of a flag pole before you’d see me attempt a flying anything — never mind a triangle.

But how do we find those moves that we prefer more than others? How do we find our personal style of jiu-jitsu.

In this video, BJJ black belt Steven Grossi answers these questions. If you’re a white belt, blue belt, or even a purple belt, this is definitely the video for you. Also, if you’re an instructor looking to help his students find their game, you will definitely want to pay attention.
