Tyron Woodley vs Gilbert Burns Targeted For May 23 UFC Card

More details are coming in regarding the UFC’s as of yet vague event set for later this month.

On a recent episode of the “UFC Unfiltered” podcast, company president Dana White announced that a welterweight bout between Burns and former champion Tyron Woodley was being negotiated for the card.

“Before I came into this interview, I got a text from Woodley that said, ‘I’m looking for Sean (Shelby). I want this fight on the 23rd.’ That’s what Woodley just told me before this interview, so we’ll see what happens,” White said. “… Burns is the opponent we’re looking at.”

Despite not having a venue or any streaming information attached to the event as of writing, this matchup holds a ton of interest. Woodley will be fighting for the first time since his loss to Kamaru Usman last year, and Burns is coming off a first round finish victory over Demian Maia in his last bout in March.

The JJT will continue to follow this story as it develops.
