Are you on the verge of quitting Brazilian jiu-jitsu?

If you’ve never been, then you’re a better person than I am. There have been countless times where, after losing match after match or being tapped out by lower belt after lower belt, that I felt like telling my instructor, “Thanks, but no thanks. I’m done.”

I’ve been doing BJJ since 2009, and I’m only a stripeless blue belt. I’ve traveled a lot and have had family issues that have gotten in the way of my training. Also, I’m going to be honest: I’m just not good at BJJ, and it’s takes me longer to learn moves than it does some other students.

But one thing that makes me feel better and that keeps me coming on the mats is that I know I am not alone. As second-degree black belt Nick “Chewy” Albin says in the video below, “BJJ is hard.” You will never hear any black belt tell you that her journey up the ranks has been nothing sunshine and lollipops.

So, if you are one of the many people thinking about throwing in the towel and ending your BJJ journey prematurely, check this video out. It may just change your mind.
