Tezos WNO 19 saw several scrappy exchanges on the main card on Thursday night — most notably, Nicholas Meregali finished Kaynan Duarte from mount with an arm triangle. The submission followed nearly the full fifteen minutes of allotted match time, with both men spending the majority of their battle wrestling from the feet.
In the waning minutes of the match, Meregali finally hit a massive takedown on Duarte, before passing Kaynan’s guard, taking mount, and finishing him off with a head-and-arm choke with barely a minute left on the clock.
At the co-main event, contrary to Jasmine Rocha’s fiery smack talk at Wednesday’s press conference, Ffion Davies put a fifteen-minute clinic on Rocha. The ADCC and IBJJF queen passed Rocha’s guard with little trouble within the first third of the match, and spent the remaining time dominating and attacking relentlessly from mount and back control.
To Rocha’s credit, however, she survived multiple submission attempts, and was able to ride out her loss on a judges’ decision, rather than tapping to the reigning champ.
Additional highlights from the main card included Andrew Tackett, who choked out Troy Russell right through the jaw in under two minutes, and Dante Leon, who caught Ethan Crelinsten with the rarely-seen back side arm triangle, sometimes referred to as the arm-in rear naked choke.
The biggest standout on the undercard was New Wave’s teen terror Helena Crevar, who finished B-Team opponent Healy Dayan by heel hook in just barely a minute. Notably, Crevar also holds a submission victory over one of WNO 19’s main card contenders, Jasmine Rocha, whom Crevar previously tapped out at the ADCC Denver Open.
