17-Year-Old MMA Fighter Uses Jiu-Jitsu To Submit Male Opponent In 22 Seconds

Jiu-jitsu is often touted as a great equalizer between the sexes, and seventeen-year-old Jharely Reyes provided a great example of that when she used her grappling skills to soundly defeat her male opponent in just 22 seconds with a rear naked choke.

The Jiu-Jitsu Times chatted with Reyes, who is from Mexico, to learn a bit more about her and how the September 22 matchup came to be. She says that she and her opponent were equally matched in both age and weight (105 lbs, or atomweight).

However, he wasn’t her original intended opponent in the amateur fight. Instead, the (female) fighter she was originally matched up against didn’t show up on the day of the fight, and the promoter offered her a fight with a young man in her weight class. Reyes accepted, and the rest is history.

The fight brings Reyes’ record to 4-0 in amateur MMA. She also has a 4-0 record in kickboxing and has been competing for four years in jiu-jitsu.

Given her impressive start in the competitive martial arts world, we shouldn’t be surprised if she continues on her successful path.
