The Camp Fire in California has been the largest and deadliest in the state’s history, causing immeasurable destruction and taking dozens of lives. Many people have lost their homes and livelihood, and countless lives have forever been changed by the wildfire.

One jiu-jitsu gym is hoping to help those affected by the fire get back on their feet. Gracie Barra Yuba City is hosting a roll-a-thon on Sunday, November 18 to benefit victims of the Camp Fire. The only entry “fee” required is a donation, and the academy is inviting people affected by the fire to come roll for free. Clothing, over-the-counter medication, and first-aid supplies are a few of the items being requested.

The program director of the gym said the following about the event:
“We were so devastated when we saw that so many people had to flee their homes. The town of Paradise is mostly destroyed. It’s only about 50 miles away from us here in Yuba City. They’re part of our community and we’re trying to do everything what we can for all the evacuees. Along with the roll-a-thon to raise money to give to victims of the fire, we’re collecting new items like blankets, first aid kits, and personal care items. We’re offering free kids and adult classes to anyone who has been affected. I know many people only got out with the clothes on their back so we will have gis and other gear there for them to wear while they train.”

If you can make it out to roll for a good cause, check out the event page to follow updates on the event. If you’re too far away to attend, you can also donate to help victims here.
