Gegard Mousasi Stops Victor Belfort In Round 2

Gegard Mousasi scored a huge win tonight in Manchester, defeating one of the biggest names in MMA history, Vitor Belfort.

Mousasi took control of the fight early, dictating the pace and forcing Vitor to skirt the perimeter of the cage. Vitor was able to land some kicks and combinations, but they were never enough to hurt Gegard, who returned with combinations of his own and a takedown at the end of the first round.

Round 2 was beginning to tell the same tale, but when Mousasi landed a huge kick, he sealed his legendary opponent’s fate. Gegard then swarmed in with a flurry of punches. In Vitor’s defense, he held on well, forcing Mousasi to clinch.  Even when his younger opponent took him down, Belfort showed his fighting spirit, putting his legs up and trying to roll away from the barrage of elbow and hammer fists that rained down on him.

But it just wasn’t enogh, and as Vitor bled profusely from his face, referee Marc Goddard had no choice but to call an end to the fight at 2:43 in the second round.

Winner via TKO, Gergard Mousasi!
