One look at Tony Ferguson’s face revealed that he probably had at least minor injuries following his TKO defeat at the hands of Justin Gaethje over the weekend at UFC 249, and now, we have confirmation of that theory.
Yahoo Sports first reported the confirmation from Dana White that Ferguson had suffered a broken orbital during the main event of the evening, in which Gaethje claimed the interim lightweight title. No other significant injuries on the fighter were reported.
While the injury is thankfully relatively minor, all things considered, it will likely keep Ferguson out of the running as a replacement if a fight between current lightweight champ Khabib Nurmagomedov and the new interim lightweight champion Gaethje are scheduled to fight each other in the near future.
Thankfully, Ferguson is already on the mend and eager to move around.
