Kamaru Usman Vs. Jorge Masvidal Title Fight Planned For Vegas’ International Fight Week 2020

A verbal sparring match between Kamaru Usman and Jorge Masvidal at Super Bowl Media Day earlier this week seems to have provided that inspiration that Dana White needed to book the athletes for an upcoming fight in Las Vegas.

White announced to Jim Rome that Usman vs. Masvidal is currently in the works for a yet-unnamed UFC event (likely to be UFC 252) during International Fight Week 2020, which takes place in July. The bout will be a fight for the welterweight belt, which Usman currently holds after getting a TKO win over Colby Covington.

White stated that having Usman face the “BMF” champion has been the plan for a while now, but the argument that took place between the two at Super Bowl Media Day pushed him to announce his plans for the matchup earlier than he’d anticipated. The verbal altercation didn’t escalate to being physical, and the fighters were separated by security personnel.

The fight hasn’t yet been made official, but if all goes according to plan, we should be seeing Usman vs. Masvidal this July in Las Vegas.
