Make A Portable Outdoor Jiu-Jitsu Mat For Under $20


With public indoor training spaces limited in many areas due to COVID-19, many BJJ athletes have started purchasing their own mats to create training spaces within their own homes and outdoors. Of course, though, this appealing option can also be expensive. Surely there’s another way to train without just roughing it on the concrete?

GrappleArts‘ Stephan Kesting has come to the rescue with an economically savvy way to get some drilling in, and you’ll only need about $20 and some outdoor space on the grass to do it. While this obviously isn’t the mat setup you’ll find in most BJJ gyms (and we do not recommend this for hard rolls or takedown practice), it’ll do in a pinch for anyone who needs to do some flow rolling or drilling.
