Martial Arts Equipment Company Toro BJJ To Donate 25% Of Order Sales To Jiu-Jitsu Gyms In Need

Jiu-jitsu and MMA gear company Toro BJJ has announced that they’re going to be making an effort to help struggling jiu-jitsu gyms in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic.

Earlier today, Toro BJJ announced the launch of their “Give Back Program,” in which 25 percent of order sales made between April 13 and April 30 will go toward the academies that buyers list in the checkout step of the ordering process. The offer is valid for gyms in North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, and Washington D.C.. Any purchase over $20 qualifies for the donation, though training mats are excluded.

Additionally, Toro BJJ has said that the gyms that end up in first, second, and third place in terms of the number of “entries” will receive an extra $250, $150, and $100, respectively. In order to ensure that the portion of your purchase goes toward the gym you want to support, list the name of the gym and the gym’s city in the comment section at checkout.

Toro BJJ’s James “Boomer” Hogaboom told the Jiu-Jitsu Times that restricting the number of applicable states is intended to make the process a bit easier to manage. “We have a strong following in NC, VA, SC and DC,” he said. “It’s going to be a lot of paperwork for us, so I wanted to limit it to our ‘base’ customers and gyms.”

He added that he got the idea after seeing the impact the virus has had on academies. “I was prompted to start the program because gyms are hurting — badly. Landlords are not being very understanding. The government grants/loans have not gotten into the hands of any gym owners that I am aware of. I feel like it’s a small thing we can do to help out gyms.”

You can check out Toro BJJ’s selection here, and remember that this offer is only valid until April 30.
