Maynard James Keenan — the enigmatic singer of such acts as Puscifer, A Perfect Circle, and most famously, Tool — is also an avid BJJ practitioner and purple belt.
Brazilian jiu-jitsu for Keenan, though, is a lot of work. There’s no cutting corners in the long, arduous road to black belt.
“It’s a tough road from white belt to black belt,” Maynard told Revolver. “There’s a long road, and it requires you…nobody else can do that but you. You have to put the time in, you have to progress, and no one can do it for you. If you have that belt by the time you get to a black belt, you earned it.”
