Should You Open A Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu School?

Should you open a Brazilian jiu-jitsu school?

By all means, yes. However, make sure you know that it is not all fun and games.

Take it from BJJ black belt Ken Primola, who once started his own school:

“I was there seven days a week,” Primola said. “Sometimes you really can’t get out and do other things with your life.”

Ken also says that it takes more than a simple passion for teaching jiu-jitsu to run a school.  You need to have a sound business mind.

“…if you do go into business and have a school, I recommend you study business and learn business first and foremost because, no matter how good you are, if you don’t have a good, sound business mind, it’s probably not going to work out for you.”

Are you a school owner? What do you think of Ken Primola’s advice? What other advice would you give someone who wants to start their own Brazilian jiu-jitsu school?
