Pat Barry: I Don’t Think I’ve Been In A Position On The Ground That’s Not Familiar

Kickboxer and former UFC heavyweight Pat Barry has never won an MMA match via submission. However, that could change.

Barry was on The MMA Hour yesterday with his wife, UFC strawweight “Thug” Rose Namajunas.

“Jiu-jitsu’s awesome,” Barry told host Ariel Helwani. “That’s been great. Competing in grappling has been pretty fun. It’s actually, I’ve been grappling for the last however-many years for so long, but actually committing to it, like committed … got a purple belt somehow. Like not, 1000 percent, all I do is grapple, but actually give a f*ck, actually care about it to where now the idea of being in a fight and falling on the ground…I don’t think I’ve been in a position on the ground that’s not familiar…”

Unfortunately, we’re not going to get to see Barry’s ground skills any time soon. The former UFC heavyweight is going to be taking part in a kickboxing match against former Bellator heavyweight Eric Prindle this year on November 18.

However, maybe the next time he steps into the cage, fans will see a more ground-oriented Pat Barry.
