Polaris 17: Davi Ramos To Challenge Champ Craig Jones For Title

The seventeenth installment of Polaris is set to take place this weekend, and this card is one that no grappling fan will want to miss.

The main event will feature a match between ADCC silver medalist and B-Team leader Craig Jones and 2015 ADCC champion Davi Ramos. Jones is a Polaris superstar, having brought home both the 205lb championship title and the 185lb title a few years ago. Though it’s been some time since we’ve seen Jones competing for Polaris, he’s been active in the competitive scene, picking up a number of wins at events like Submission Underground and Who’s Number One.

Jones will have to defend his title from Ramos, though, which will be no easy task. Ramos will be making his promotional debut and coming off a string of appearances for Fight 2 Win to do so. Though Ramos has lost his past four matches, he’s undoubtedly a legend of the sport both in the grappling world and as a UFC veteran.

Another big match on the card will be for the first-ever Polaris women’s open weight title, with Kendall Reusing and Venla Luukkonen facing off for the honor. Reusing, who most recently won gold at No-Gi Pans earlier this year, made waves at the end of September when she made it to the finals at the WNO Championship and took home second place after a banger of a match against Rafaela Guedes. Though Luukkonen will likely be the underdog in this match, she’s not one to underestimate. The Finnish athlete and Polaris veteran took home gold at Worlds in 2014, going on to win bronze at Worlds the following year as well.

Combat Jiu-Jitsu champion Kody Steele will also have a match against Polaris Squads veteran Jed Hue. ADCC veteran Kamil Wilk will face off against Robert Degle, who won gold at American Nationals as a brown belt. Finally, Ellis Younger will take on Mateusz Gamrot, and Fred Greenall and Tarik Hopstock will test themselves against each other.

Polaris 17 will take place on Saturday, October 9, and can be streamed live on UFC FightPass.
