The jiu-jitsu world has experienced a great loss with the passing of Yukinori Sasa, who was found dead earlier this week at 38 years old.

While the cause of death hasn’t been confirmed, BJJ Heroes reports that two sources told them that the evidence points to suicide.

Sasa won Worlds as a brown belt in 2005, then went on to medal at Worlds and Pans in 2013 as a black belt. He then went on to have a successful career as an instructor, helping to develop the skills of four-time World Champion Rikako Yuasa. He also went up against Joao Miyao at Polaris 3.

The global BJJ community will mourn the loss of Sasa, and his legacy will live on through his students.
