Street Defense Mastery Seminar (Rener Gracie)

Of course, street fights and grappling matches are two different things. They require separate approaches, and striking doesn’t occur in Jiu-Jitsu sparring or competition. Rener Gracie breaks down these differences in his Street Defense Mastery Seminar. He points out that the typical grappling distance on the ground is the complete opposite of what’s safe in an actual fist fight.

Rener runs through how BJJ can be used in real fighting, where strikes are involved. An interesting point he makes is that a majority of Jiu-Jitsu techniques don’t work in real fighting. If fists are being thrown, then a fighter with a BJJ background needs to follow Rener’s teachings on this matter. Otherwise, a trained BJJ fighter could wind up on the ground out cold.
