This weekend will see yet another all-female BJJ event as Submissions on the Shore returns for an exciting team-based event in Galveston, Texas.
Subs on the Shore, founded by Cortney Danielle Carlson and Albert Tapia, has hosted a dozen events to help promote women’s jiu-jitsu, and their February installment will serve as their second team-based event. This time around, sixteen teams of three will compete for the grand prize of $5,000.
The promotion last hosted an event in January, which featured a number of action-packed superfights, including a freestyle wrestling match. This time around, we’ll see names like Amanda Loewen, Fabiana Jorge, Talita Nogueira (and her daughter, Luiza Nogueira), and Heather Raftery taking to the mats to help secure the winning spot for their respective teams.
Subs on the Shore employs submission-only rules, with mandatory overtime (EBI rules or sudden-death, depending on which team won the coin flip at the beginning of the match) if no submission happens in regulation. The teams have a maximum total weight of 420 lbs, and every athlete on each team has to compete.
