The Musumeci siblings have united at last under the ONE Championship banner, with current flyweight king Mikey Musumeci’s older sister Tammi Musumeci taking on former ADCC champ Bianca Basilio at ONE Fight Night 8 this weekend.
Tammi, though she keeps lower profile than her younger brother — and famously avoids Instagram — is nonetheless a force to be reckoned with in the jiu-jitsu world. In addition to her work as a full-time attorney, Tammi owns IBJJF Worlds gold in both gi and no-gi five times over as an adult black belt competitor.
In previous interview with the Jiu-Jitsu Times, Mikey compared his relationship with his sister to the bond between fellow ONE Championship grapplers Kade and Tye Ruotolo, explaining, “I’ve spoken to Kade and Tye about it before, and [Tammi and I] are very similar.
“We’ve always been only like fifteen, twenty pounds apart in weight. So we’ve been close enough in size, where she was always my main training partner as a kid, and growing up. That was actually really beneficial to me. And she would always beat me up every day in training! She was always way better in jiu-jitsu than me, honestly, so I always felt this chip on my shoulder, where I had to work harder. And having somebody to push you to do that – I always felt like she helped me a lot, because I felt like I was less than her, in jiu-jitsu.
“The main difference between [me and Tammi] and the Ruotolo twins is that with them – I remember talking to them – one of them isn’t really ‘alpha’ over the other. But my sister was always alpha over me. She would bully me!”
Given that her brother is currently undefeated in the ONE Championship Circle, Tammi’s bullying clearly paid off. Watch the elder Musumeci sibling in action tonight as she goes head-to-head with a fellow world champion in Bianca Basilio.
