Angela Magana Taps To Shoulder Choke At Rizin, Now Riding Seven-Fight Losing Streak In Mixed Martial Arts

It has been a rough six years for former UFC Strawweight “Your Majesty” Angela Magana, and it just got rougher. Late last year, shortly after her third loss in the UFC, Magana was booted out of the promotion. Last night, she made her debut in the Japanese MMA promotion, Rizin, and it was probably a debut she’d rather forget.

Magana took on 25-year-old Kanako Murata at Rizin 12, which went down at the Aichi Prefectural Gymnasium in Aichi, Japan.  According to Tapology, Murata entered the fight with 92 percent of the predictions in her favor. Considering she only lost one of her nine fights (via submission to Rin Nakai two years ago) and she was riding a four-fight win streak, it is easy to see why.

Murata dominated in the first round, utilizing her wrestling skills to control Your Majesty. Though both started out firing off punches, Kanako took Angela down with a trip and held her American rival in side control before landing some solid punches.

Magana managed to struggle her way up, but was suplexed back to the mat. Angela was then stuck on her knees. She managed to work her way back up, but ate a knee in the process.

Murata had no intention of letting Magana stay up, though. Yet again, Kanako took Your Majesty down into side control and landed some hard punches before the round ended.

In the second round, things started to look a bit upwards for Magana, as she was able to land some jabs and fight off Murata. But as soon as Angela was taken down again, her fate was sealed. Kanako went for a Von Flue choke, then maneuvered to mount, squeezed down, and earned herself the tap via shoulder choke.

Angela Magana is now riding a seven-right losing streak. She later shared her thoughts about her match against Murata on Facebook:

I lost the fight
