Ben Askren, a former Olympic wrestler and Bellator Welterweight Champion and current ONE welterweight champion discussed Demian Maia’s wrestling techniques in a recent ESPN interview with Brett Okomoto.
Ben Askren praised the skills of the Brazilian jiu jitsu fighter, and described his three-piece combo takedown as a move that Maia’s opponents often have difficulty countering.
Askren weighed in on Maia’s techniques while discussing some of his recent fights, including Maia vs Masvidal and the upcoming Maia vs Woodley fight. Maia is currently number one in the UFC welterweight rankings and is considered to be one of the greatest grapplers in MMA history.
