There was a huge controversy coming out of the 2016 Abu Dhabi Trials, A blue belt competing in Abu Dabhi pro 2016 as a white belt won Absolute Division. Essentially, for those of you who are not familiar with the world of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu or the Abu Dhabi Trials, a white belt is the lowest division in the sport and a blue belt is ranked higher in the system. So, what happened is that a more skilled blue belt competed in one division lower and quite frankly, dominated the division with his superior skills.

  1. In my opinion competitors that sand bag need to be striped of there title and need to be suspended from the tournament. What coach in there right mind would be ok with there students doing this?

  2. He has been promoted blue belt only after this competition. He was wearing a blue belt only to teach kids, and he has not been promoted blue belt before. You can condemn him because of wearing a blue belt without promotion, but you can’t take away his medal.

  3. If he actually did it, it’s an empty victory for him, total disrespect to the other competitors & event organizers and disgraceful for his professor/academy. Not to mention completely against the spirit of BJJ itself.
